September is coming to an end, and this month there have a been a couple of social media updates that could be handy to make note of.

Here’s everything you need to know…

YouTube Adds Web Visits to Promotions

If you want to use YouTubes paid Promotion feature to drive website visits, now you can thanks to an update to their campaign options in YouTube Creator Studio. When you now go to create a campaign, you’ll be able to choose Website Visit’s as your goal, as explained by YouTube: “It’s easier than ever to find your ideal audience and turn video views into site visitors. Right from YouTube, use promotions to meet your growth goals. Provide a few quick inputs like country and language targeting and you can get your ad up and running. Over time, you can start getting results and track the site visits that you’re generating on the Promotions tab in YouTube Studio.”
This goal now also applies to the ads shown between Shorts, in the main feed, and via in-stream ads - “These videos will be labelled as “Sponsored.” Just to be clear: promotions are in addition to your channel’s organic reach and discovery on YouTube, and any subscribers and watch time gained from ads won’t count toward YouTube Partner Program eligibility.”

Research Suggests Discussions Are The Best Form Of Threads Content

Business Insider has recently conducted research on Threads to discover what elements Threads’ algorithm focuses on. The results found comments were prioritised over likes and reshares, with discussions that drive an emotional response driving the most engagement. Meta has stated they want Threads to become a more positive platform compared to what eventually happened with the mood on X, and asking questions that invoke the need to reply from your audience may be the way to go if you want to grow on the platform.

Threads is also beginning to climb in the App Downloads compared to it’s closest competitor X, which is seeing a decline. It may not instantly be the app set to take over from the remaining power X still holds, but its gain in momentum may be due to recent reports by X that millions of European users have left the platform and the recent ban of the platform in Brazil. Threads is innovating and adding features constantly, so it may be worth keeping in mind if you’re looking to grow your business using the platform.

Updates to Facebook & Instagram Ads

With the holiday season coming up, Meta has announced the introduction of new ad tools and formats to bring in new customers.

First of all, Advertisers will be able to highlight their promo codes – making it easier for discounts to be applied and to drive purchases. Reminder ads have been used for advertisers to notify people about an upcoming event or sale – and now they can drive people to a mobile app, which will help with boosting in-app purchases and more frequent notifications that help to increase demand, especially during Black Friday and Christmas when deals become more common.

Businesses will also be able to use site links that add multiple landing pages to a single image or video ad, so people can access the products they’re the most interested in with a singular click.

Meta are also in the process of testing out new features to aid physical stores too, discovering ways to show ads to users more likely to shop in-store and allowing them to find the nearest advertised store. For those looking to travel at this time of year, Meta is also testing ways for businesses to advertise to those visiting an area by targeting as directly at people who may be on holiday but are looking for places to go or things to buy during their trip.

YouTube Allowing Edits To Videos That Violate Community Guidelines

YouTube will now give creators the chance to edit out any clips that violate their rules or cause a video to get age-restricted. In YouTube Studio, creators will be able to select the option to revise their content, with the following steps explained by YouTube: “From there [creators] can make changes to address any policy issues using a video editor. Once complete, YouTube’s policy team will review the updated version and modify the policy decision accordingly. As usual, the creator can choose to appeal instead.”
That’s all for September! Have a great October and remember to keep an eye out for any more updates over the coming weeks that could aid with your digital marketing strategies.
