Social media engagement is highly important if you want your business page to grow. It helps to boost your posts in the algorithm for more potential customers to see them, and shows you that you’re heading in the right direction with your content.

Engagement also helps you to build meaningful relationships with your customers, as you’ll be able to reply to their comments and messages and start conversations. It acts as a great tool for you to discover how your business is doing, and the growth that it’s achieving.

Engagement is when someone interacts with a piece of content you made, whether it’s liking, sharing, commenting or even clicking links and hashtags – any action they take on your post is an engagement.

However, some businesses find it difficult to gain engagement, especially when they first start out. Attracting an audience from scratch who will engage with you isn’t easy, neither is trying to keep your engagement high if your growth has slowed down.

Here are some ways you can improve and increase your engagement.
Analyse Your Insights

Regularly analysing your insights will help you to figure out which posts are doing well, which ones aren’t working, and what type of engagement you’re getting. You should make notes on the numbers that matter to you, whether it’s all the engagement you get on the post or just something like comments. This will help you work out your average engagements per post, and if there’s ever points where your engagement decreases. This will also help you to work out when you should be posting, including specific times and days, so that you get the optimal amount of engagement per post.

Create An Engagement Strategy

By creating targets for your engagement, you can work towards hitting your goals and increasing engagement over time. Your strategy will be different to other business strategies, as its unique to you – therefore, trying to aim for the engagement big brands get may not be the best way to go especially as a small business.

Who Is Your Audience?

Your strategy should consider your audience and what they’re looking for. What language will you use to reach out to them? What platform are your audience most likely to use? Researching your audience’s personas will help you to find out what content you need to be making so that you can get the most engagement from these people.

Share Valuable Content

The content you share needs to be interesting. If your content has some worth to the audience, then they’ll want to engage with it. Your content needs to be relevant and on topic with your industry so you don’t confuse your audience or post information that’s out of date or not on trend anymore. You can track how well your content is doing through analytics, which will help you discover what you should be posting. If your content isn’t interesting, then you won’t be able to increase and improve your engagement. Using tools such as Canva for graphics will also help you to take your visual content to the next level, and keep it branded to your business.

Respond To Your Audience

If you get any comments or messages, make sure you respond quickly. This will affirm to the audience that you’ve seen their comment and that you appreciate their support, or that you’re willing to answer a question they may have had. You can also begin a conversation with them and build your relationship.

Make sure your response is human too – if you come across as automated, then it could put people off. Consider the person on the other side of the screen and speak to them in a friendly tone.

Engagement on social media can take time to build, but when you start discovering how it can help your business, it’ll be worth the effort you put in. Try building your engagement today and see how it can benefit your business on social media.
