We’ve seen some new updates in the world of digital marketing and social media since the beginning of the new year, so let’s take a look at all the latest news and trends!
Instagram Update
In February, Instagram will update their home screen in order to ‘focus on simplicity’, according to CEO Adam Mosseri. Whilst the shop will remain, the tab will disappear. They’ll also be ensuring there’s a better balance for images and videos, compared to last years push for more video-style content.
Social Media Marketing Is On The Rise
A recent report from Statista showed that over 4.26 billion people were using social media in 2021, and has projected this to increase to almost 6 billion by 2027. They also found that on average, users will spend 144 minutes each day on social media and messaging apps.
Therefore, there is no better time than now to start marketing your business and advertising it on social media. Not only will you be able to reach a bigger audience, but you can also build up a loyal following of happy customers, who are satisfied with what you’ve provided whether it be a product or service.
Positive News For Local Businesses
SafariDigital have reported that in 2022, 97% of users searched online to find a local business. With local shopping being on the rise for the last couple of years, business owners must look to ensure they’re offering the best value to their customers to ensure the continued support from local communities.
Shoppers have started using ‘near me’ in their search terms more than they were in the 2016-2018 period, giving smaller businesses the chance to improve on their marketing and presence so consumers will consider shopping or signing up to a service with them first, over big market brands.
Video Continues To Dominate
Video marketing is still continuing to dominate on social media, with it predicted to become even more important for businesses running digital marketing campaigns in 2023. This doesn’t mean brands need to look at hiring influencers and celebrities to do big budget campaigns either – viewers have shown through their usage of apps such as TikTok and the Instagram Reels feature that authenticity is what they want to see. Data by Emplifi showed that Reels account for 40% more interaction than traditional videos, so it’s important business begin to consider using this feature in future campaigns.
The Rise Of AI
Artificial Intelligence has been a rising concept for businesses when it comes to digital marketing, but the recent boom of AI on social media platforms could lead to it being implemented more often in campaigns – despite the legal and moral implications it could cause. This allows employees to shift towards becoming more strategic thinkers and dynamic workers, whilst AI spends it’s time on creating content for the businesses marketing campaigns. However, as mentioned above, consumers are moving away from slick, over-produced content and are relying much more on authenticity, which could cause problems for businesses looking to AI to produce their marketing for them.
2023 Digital Marketing Trends Favour Loyalty Programs
Loyalty programs allow businesses to reward their most dedicated customers with offers and exclusive content, however a study by Gartner found that of 1,068 businesses analysed in 2022, only 36% had loyalty programs.
B2B and B2C can both benefit from the use of a loyalty program, as they can be used to collect data and aid personalisation of content towards customers – allowing for the customer experience to be enhanced as more people sign up to the program.
That’s the latest news so far from 2023, and implementing some of these techniques and tactics could be of great benefit to businesses looking to improve with their digital marketing as we head further into the year.
And finally, our social media tip is: Regularity of posts is vital to ensuring you don't get forgot about on social media. Posting one day and then disappearing for weeks or months isn't going to set your business for success. Post regularly and at times when your customers are active will ensure you stay fresh in their minds for when the need for your product or service arises. Be consistent and you will reap the rewards of social interaction and sales
