Facebook groups are a place to communicate about shared interests and express opinions with certain people. Groups let people come together around a common cause, issue, or activity to organise, express objectives, discuss issues, post photos, and share related content. Any individual can create and manage a Facebook group, you can even join up to 6,000 other groups.

Having a successful group will allow you to share your knowledge and expertise, as well as provide a more personal engagement to your members, drive focused attention to a call to action, build trust by providing value and receive immediate feedback from polls and questions.

Promoting your Facebook group is the most effective and simple way for it to become successful. You can promote your group by adding it to your website, you can also link your group to your Facebook page, promote your group in other Facebook groups, get existing members to promote it, promote your Facebook group via email and finally use video to promote your group. Video is extremely effective as it gets 110% more engagement than any other type of content, so if you are not using it, you should start.

Having a compelling name and cover photo for your group will allow it to be seen by more users. Your group name is your group’s biggest selling point, so choose wisely! Your cover photo is the visual version of your Facebook group’s name. You want your cover image to convey what your group is about at a glance.

An important part of running a successful Facebook group is building a community and interacting with your members. It is the simple things such as; responding to comments and answering questions that goes a long way. When your group members see these interactions, they are more likely to post their own questions, which leads to even more connections.

Creating a Facebook group, gives you direct contact to your target audience, so you have the opportunity to ask for their opinions, get feedback and learn more about them and what they would like to see from your business. Don’t forget, interacting every day is key to keeping your Facebook group alive and growing!

The success of your Facebook group also depends on your rules. For example, what are your group members allowed to post and what are they not allowed to post? What kind of language is acceptable or unacceptable? Remember to emphasise the ‘dos’ and the ‘don’ts’, as this will give your members confidence to post things that you DO want them to post in the group. It is also important to make sure you are clear that rude, abusive, disrespectful or nasty language and behaviour will not be tolerated, and what will happen if people do behave in this way.
